Whitefish Mountain Resort

Good forOutdoor loversHistory buffs

Winter Sports, Inc. formed as a public company of community shareholders and opened Big Mountain in December 1947 — a resort built, in part, by locals who donated labor to get it done. The mountain hosted the U.S. Alpine Championships in 1949 and again in 2001. Olympic champion Tommy Moe learned to ski here. Renamed Whitefish Mountain Resort in 2007, it sits in the Flathead National Forest with Glacier National Park to the east and runs open from the summit down to trails that, on certain days, sit above the clouds.
