Florence Dibell Bartlett gave the building, the land, and the founding collection to the State of New Mexico in 1953. What grew from that gift is now the world's largest collection of international folk art — more than 130,000 objects from over 100 countries, housed on Museum Hill in Santa Fe. The original building was designed by New Mexico architect John Gaw Meem. Designer Alexander Girard later donated his own collection and designed its permanent exhibition himself. Come for the work. The breadth will take care of itself.
