Museum of Indian Arts and Culture

The archaeological collection alone — somewhere between five and ten million artifacts, too numerous to individually catalogue — tells you what kind of operation this is. On Museum Hill in Santa Fe, the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture is a division of the New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs, dedicated to the Indigenous cultures of the Southwest. Its current director is Danyelle Means, Oglala Lakota. The permanent exhibition *Here, Now and Always* draws on more than six hundred objects: ceramics, jewelry, paintings, fashion. That's the entry point.
