Estadio Francisco Montaner, Ponce

The track beneath left field drops away on a hydraulic system when baseball season ends — then rises again when it's over. That mechanical fact tells you everything about Estadio Francisco Montaner. Opened in 1949 with a capacity of 16,000, it is the first stadium in Puerto Rico with an artificial surface, and it has housed baseball, soccer, track and field, and basketball at various points in its life. The New York Yankees used it for winter training. Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, Roberto Clemente, and Rickey Henderson all played here. The 2022 renovation brought the Leones de Ponce back to professional baseball. The guano, reportedly, stayed.
