Westhaven public housing

Good forHistory buffs

In 1965, Charlottesville leaders razed the historically Black neighborhood of Vinegar Hill and relocated many of its families here — to Westhaven, on Hardy Drive. The displacement also absorbed residents of Cox's Row and Echo Lane, two other Black communities. Westhaven was the first public housing community in the Charlottesville Redevelopment and Housing Authority's portfolio. It still operates today, with redevelopment now underway.
