Lyndon B. Johnson State Park and Historic Site

The ranch where Lyndon Johnson was born, lived, and is buried sits about 50 miles west of Austin along the Pedernales River — Hill Country limestone and cattle country, the landscape that shaped the 36th president. The adjacent state park, run by Texas Parks and Wildlife, holds the entry point for a free self-guided driving tour of the LBJ Ranch and operates the Sauer-Beckmann Living History Farm, where rangers in period clothing work a World War I-era German-Texan farm. Bison and longhorns graze the pastures. No entrance fee.
