Truchas

The name means "trout" in Spanish, which tells you something about where you are — high desert country laced with cold water. Truchas is a Spanish land-grant village on the High Road to Taos, established in 1754, where traditional adobe architecture and weaving traditions have held. Robert Redford filmed *The Milagro Beanfield War* here in 1988. That's not incidental. You don't shoot a film about a community fighting to keep its land in a place that doesn't look like it means it.
