Cayucos State Beach and Pier

The name means "canoes" in Spanish — a nod to the Chumash people who fished these waters long before Captain James Cass arrived and built a pier and warehouse here to move cargo up and down the coast. That original pier was swept away by a storm. The one standing now is its replacement, still drawing surfers and anglers. Wikipedia notes the pier is among the county's best surf spots. Emergency repairs followed winter storm damage as recently as 2025. Some places just keep getting rebuilt.
