Steps Beach (Tres Palmas Marine Reserve), Rincón

The name comes from the beach itself: a random set of steps, planted in the sand, that lead nowhere in particular. Steps Beach sits in Rincón, a municipality on Puerto Rico's western coast that has drawn surfers from around the world since the 1968 World Surfing Championship was held nearby. The reef offshore makes this a snorkeling destination — turtles, fish, coral — and the stretch of beach runs long enough that you can usually find a quiet patch of it to yourself.
