Playa Crash Boat, Aguadilla

The name tells the whole story. American military rescue boats once raced from this pier to pull downed airmen out of the sea near Ramey Air Force Base — that's what a crash boat was, and that's what this beach is named for. Sea currents eventually deposited enough sand into the pier area to make it unusable for docking, and what the military left behind became a public beach. The pier infrastructure remains, now used for fishing and recreation. Swimming, surfing, and snorkeling happen here. The water came after the mission ended.
