Galveston County Courthouse

National Register of Historic Places
Good forHistory buffsArts & culture lovers

Galveston County was formed in 1838 from portions of Harrisburg, Liberty, and Brazoria counties — one of the original municipalities of the Republic of Texas — and organized the following year with Galveston as its seat. The courthouse at 722 Moody Avenue has gone through several structures since then; the current building, completed in 1966, is a six-story Midcentury Modern structure of concrete and glass. It remains on the National Register of Historic Places and still houses county administrative functions alongside the Galveston County Museum.
