Reclaim Arcade

The arcade opened in January 2021 on Plank Road with a $15 day pass covering all-day free-play access to more than fifty arcade cabinets, nineteen pinball machines. The games span the 1970s through the mid-1990s: Galaga, Ms. Pac-Man, Tapper, Double Dragon, TMNT, X-Men, Joust, Paperboy, Ghosts and Goblins. The pinball tournaments run on the last Thursday of every month. The front room is designed to look like a 1990s Blockbuster; inside, a replica 1980s living room holds vintage consoles from the Atari 2600 to the NES. The venue serves smash burgers, loaded fries, fried chicken sandwiches, craft cocktails, beer, wine, cider.

Fredericksburg sits at the fall line of the Rappahannock, where the river stops being navigable for larger vessels — a colonial port city forty-two miles south of Washington and fifty-three miles north of Richmond that later became the site of two major Civil War battles. Tourism drives the local economy now, with more than 1.5 million visitors annually coming for the battlefield park, the museums, the downtown galleries. This arcade is part of that flow, but the appeal is narrower: free-play access to working hardware from the era when a game cabinet was a destination, not a download.
