Kolb Studio

National Register of Historic Places
Good forHistory buffsArts & culture lovers

Perched at the head of Bright Angel Trail on the South Rim, the studio the Kolb brothers built starting in 1904 was never just a building — it was a base of operations. Emery and Ellsworth Kolb constructed it as both home and photographic studio, expanding it through 1926, and used it to document the canyon and the people who came to see it. After Emery's death in 1976, the National Park Service acquired the structure. It remains open today, operated as an art gallery, bookstore, and information center.
