Elden Pueblo Archaeological Site

National Register of Historic Places
Good forFamiliesHistory buffs

The people who built Elden Pueblo were gone by 1275. What they left behind — a village of 60 to 70 rooms at the foot of Mount Elden, trade goods from Mexico and the California coast — still draws archaeologists today. Since 1978, the public has worked alongside professionals here, excavating and analyzing artifacts under supervision. The site is free, open year-round, and one of the few places where you don't just look at the past — you dig it up.
