National Register of Historic Places
Good forFamiliesHistory buffsArts & culture lovers

Two brothers who married two sisters built one house — a duplex of thirteen thousand square feet completed in 1904, when Arizona was still a territory. Timothy and Michael Riordan, lumber barons who helped shape Flagstaff, commissioned architect Charles Whittlesey — the same man behind the Grand Canyon's El Tovar Hotel — for a structure of log-slab siding, volcanic stone arches, and hand-split wooden shingles. Now an Arizona State Park, the mansion is toured by guided walk through rooms that still hold the original family furnishings.
