Flagstaff Visitor Center and Amtrak Depot

National Register of Historic Places
Good forHistory buffsArts & culture lovers

The depot at 1 East Route 66 has been an active train station since January 6, 1926, when the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway opened it to service — the public celebration had come the day before. Built in 1925, it replaced an 1889 sandstone Atlantic and Pacific Railroad depot that still stands across San Francisco Street. The City of Flagstaff owns the building today; Amtrak runs the Southwest Chief through it, and the Flagstaff Visitor Center shares the floor. At 6,902 feet, it ranks among the highest stations in the Amtrak system.
