Slide Rock State Park

National Register of Historic Places
Good forOutdoor loversHistory buffs

Frank Pendley arrived in Oak Creek Canyon in 1907, claimed 43 acres under the Homestead Act in 1910, and planted his first apple orchard in 1912. The irrigation system he built still runs. By 1933 he'd added cabins for tourists. What the creek did to the sandstone over time — an 80-foot natural chute, 2.5 to 4 feet wide, worn smooth — the Travel Channel eventually named one of America's top ten swimming holes.
