Hermit's Rest

National Register of Historic Places
Good forOutdoor loversArts & culture lovers

Mary Colter designed it in 1914, and the name tells you everything about the intention: a rough stone structure at the western end of Hermit Road, built to look like it had always belonged to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. It still operates as a snack bar and rest stop, anchored by a large alcove stone fireplace. The Hermit Trail begins about a quarter mile beyond it.
