Dr. Konstantin Frank Winery

Good forOutdoor loversFood & drink loversHistory buffs

For three centuries, the conventional wisdom held that European wine grapes couldn't survive the winters of the northeastern United States. Konstantin Frank — a Ukrainian viticulturist who arrived in America in 1951 speaking nine languages, none of them English — disagreed. In 1958 he planted vinifera vines on Keuka Lake and proved everyone wrong. The winery he founded in 1962 remains family-owned, now in its third and fourth generations, and still making the case that the Finger Lakes belong in the same conversation as anywhere else on earth.
