Keuka Lake

Good forOutdoor loversFood & drink loversHistory buffs

The only Y-shaped lake among the Finger Lakes, Keuka earns its Seneca name — "lake with an elbow" — and its nickname, Crooked Lake, both from a geography that sets it apart from every other lake in the chain. Spanning Steuben and Yates counties, it runs 20 miles long with a shoreline of 60 miles. The hills surrounding it have grown grapes since the mid-19th century, earning Keuka the title Cradle of the Wine Industry in New York — and Glenn Curtiss tested the world's first flying boats on its water in the early 20th century.
