The marquee on State Street has marked downtown Bristol for more than 90 years. Built in the 1930s as an Art Deco movie palace, the Paramount Center for the Arts now runs music, dance, comedy, film, and theater as a nonprofit performing arts center listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In 1989, a group of concerned citizens raised the funds to restore it. The Paramount Foundation owns and operates it today — the community's investment in itself, still open.
