Bristol Sign (State Street Neon Sign)

State Street runs along the actual state line between Virginia and Tennessee, and the sign has stood at that seam since 1915. Bristol Gas and Electric donated and erected it in 1910 to advertise the city; the original slogan read PUSH! — THAT'S BRISTOL. A 1921 contest replaced it with A GOOD PLACE TO LIVE, and that slogan, lit by 1,332 bulbs, hasn't changed since. The National Register of Historic Places agreed it mattered, listing it in 1988. Two states, one sign, one claim.
