Adams Museum

W.E. Adams founded this museum in 1930 and gave it to the city of Deadwood — where it remains city property today. The Black Hills' oldest history museum holds the Thoen Stone, the written record of the Ezra Kind party's gold discovery in the Hills during the 1830s; Potato Creek Johnny's gold nugget; and artifacts tied to Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane. The gold rush that built Deadwood also built the need for a place like this — somewhere to keep what the boom left behind.
