Mount Moriah Cemetery

National Register of Historic Places
Good forHistory buffs

The flag flies over Mount Moriah around the clock — by local tradition, not by law — which tells you something about how Deadwood keeps its dead. Wild Bill Hickok, Calamity Jane, and Seth Bullock are buried here, alongside Civil War veterans, children killed by typhus and smallpox outbreaks, and three remaining Chinese graves from a community that once numbered around 400 in the city. Most of the Chinese dead were eventually disinterred and returned to China. The unmarked Potter's Field graves hold the rest of those the gold rush used up.
