Mt. Bachelor Ski Resort

The name says everything: Mt. Bachelor stands apart from the Three Sisters, and the locals who named it knew exactly what they were doing. A dormant stratovolcano rising to 9,068 feet, it sits 18 miles southwest of Bend in the Deschutes National Forest. The ski area has operated here since 1958 — built on fundraising by the Bend Skyliners Mountaineering Club — and now covers 3,683 skiable acres with a vertical drop of 3,365 feet. It is the only major Cascade volcano with a chairlift to the summit, running in summer as well as winter.
