Fredericksburg — Marktplatz (Market Square)

Laid out in 1846 as part of Baron von Meusebach's original town plan, Fredericksburg's Market Square has functioned as the city's public center since the German settlers first broke ground. The reconstructed Vereins Kirche anchors it today. The square still hosts Oktoberfest and Saengerfest, festivals that carry forward traditions the founding immigrants brought with them — making this less a heritage exhibit than a place the town continues to actually use.
