Santa Fe Opera

Good forLive-music fansArts & culture lovers

John Crosby founded the Santa Fe Opera in 1956 and opened its first season on July 3, 1957, on a former guest ranch seven miles north of downtown. A 1967 fire destroyed the original theater; the company finished that season in a local high school gymnasium before rebuilding. The current Crosby Theatre, open since 1998, seats 2,128 and keeps its sides open to the surrounding landscape. The Apprentice Singer Program, running since the first season, has trained over 2,000 young singers.
