Paseo de la Princesa

Good forLive-music fansHistory buffsArts & culture lovers

Built between 1852 and 1854 along the base of Old San Juan's colonial walls, the Paseo de la Princesa was constructed in honor of Spain's Princess of Asturias. At its midpoint stands the Fuente Raíces, a 1992 sculptural fountain by Luis Sanguino representing the three ancestral threads of Puerto Rican identity — Taíno, Spanish, and Sub-Saharan African. The promenade ends at Puerta de San Juan, the only remaining gate in the old city walls. On weekends, live music fills the esplanade.
