Camp Hale Nordic Center / 10th Mountain Division Hut System

The 10th Mountain Division Hut System, established in 1982 and now comprising 34 backcountry huts across 350 miles of trails through the Colorado Rockies, was created to honor the WWII 10th Mountain Division troops who trained at Camp Hale and to preserve their backcountry skiing tradition. Skiers and hikers travel hut-to-hut through the same terrain the division used, making this a living practice rooted in specific military and mountain culture heritage.
