Camp Hale – Continental Divide National Monument

Built in 1942 near Leadville, Colorado, and deactivated three years later, Camp Hale left almost nothing standing — a friend who returned found concrete slabs where structures once were. President Biden designated the site a national monument on October 12, 2022, under the Antiquities Act. What endured wasn't the architecture. It was the reason the place existed at all.
