Hotel Colorado

National Register of Historic Places
Good forHistory buffsArts & culture lovers

President Theodore Roosevelt used the Hotel Colorado as his headquarters during an 1905 bear-hunting expedition — which tells you something about what this town was, and what this hotel represented. Glenwood Springs itself had grown up fast and rough, a frontier camp called Defiance before it was tamed into a resort destination built around the Utes' sacred hot springs. The hotel, opened in 1893 in Italian Renaissance style, was where the West put on its best clothes.
