St. Patrick's Church

Galveston earned its place as Texas' commercial capital through a port that handled the world's cotton trade — and the immigrant communities who worked that port built the churches that still anchor the island's historic core. St. Patrick's is one of them: a Victorian Gothic structure listed on the historic register, among the older surviving church buildings on the island. The architecture outlasted the 1900 hurricane that reshaped everything else. That it's still here is reason enough to go.
