King Family Vineyards

Family-owned since 1998, King Family Vineyards farms the foothills of the Blue Ridge in Crozet, fifteen miles west of Charlottesville. Winemaker Matthieu Finot produces wines — Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Chardonnay, Viognier among them — meant to carry what Virginia's ground actually gives. On Sunday afternoons in season, the vineyard hosts polo matches on the property lawn. You bring a bottle from the tasting room and watch horses work. It's an unlikely combination that earns itself.
