Five minutes from Charlottesville's Downtown Mall, the Rivanna River Company puts kayaks, canoes, stand-up paddleboards, and tubes on the Rivanna — a river with marked water trail access points throughout Albemarle. When drought drops the water too low, they pause downriver trips and shift to an out-and-back option near the shop. They're open Wednesday through Monday. The river was here before the city; getting on it is still the most direct way to understand the place.
