Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park

On the Watauga River in Elizabethton, this state park marks where patriot militia gathered in September 1780 before marching over the Blue Ridge Mountains to defeat the British at the Battle of Kings Mountain — a victory recognized as critical for the Patriot cause. Each September, that crossing gets reenacted here, on the same ground where it began.
