Journey Museum and Learning Center

The Lakota called it Pahá Sápa — the Black Hills — and the Journey Museum in Rapid City builds its whole argument around that name. Starting with the Star Room's scientific and Native American accounts of the universe's formation, the museum moves through geology, paleontology, archaeology, and Lakota culture before landing on pioneer settlement. Collections on loan from multiple institutions anchor each gallery. The gardens surrounding the building are maintained by volunteer gardeners from the area.
