Good forFamiliesHistory buffs
Twelve miles south of Hot Springs on SD Highway 71, a private wilderness preserve gives America's unwanted wild mustangs a permanent home. Founded by the late Dayton O. Hyde, the sanctuary runs guided tours out to see the herds — up close, by vehicle, with a guide who knows the land and the animals on it. The visitors center and gift shop are open daily. This is not a zoo. The horses are free, and the point is that they stay that way.
