Gretna Dafford Murals

Robert Dafford, who has painted over 500 murals across the United States, left some of his best work on the walls of Gretna's historic district. The murals on the German-American Cultural Center compress centuries of immigration history into building-sized panels. Others throughout the district depict river life, the German Coast settlers, and the everyday commerce of a West Bank town. They are the largest public art installation in Jefferson Parish and the best reason to walk Gretna's side streets instead of driving through.
