Salvo Day Use Area

The Pamlico Sound side of Hatteras Island doesn't get the crowds the Atlantic beach does, which is exactly the point. The Salvo Day Use Area sits just south of the village of Salvo, where consistent winds draw windsurfers, kitesboarders, and paddleboarders to the Sound's shallow, calm water. Restrooms, picnic tables, grills, shaded pavilions, and parking for larger vehicles including short RVs are on site. Herons, ospreys, and pelicans work the adjacent marshes. Local outfitters nearby rent gear and run lessons.
