Oregon Inlet Fishing Center

A hurricane tore open Oregon Inlet in 1846, separating Bodie Island from Pea Island — and the fishing industry never looked back. The center sits at the northern terminus of the Marc Basnight Bridge, within Cape Hatteras National Seashore, where the inlet connects Pamlico Sound to the Atlantic and serves as a primary departure point for offshore charter fishing toward the Gulf Stream. The channel requires constant dredging to stay open, but the fleet goes out almost every day anyway.
