Kill Devil Hills Monument to a Century of Flight

The monument stands near the Wright Brothers National Memorial, a bas-relief in granite raised in 2003 to mark one hundred years since December 17, 1903 — the day a powered, heavier-than-air machine first left the ground at Kill Devil Hills. The carving captures the Flyer at the moment of liftoff. That's the whole story, and it's enough. Come because the ground itself earned the marker.
