Fisher Historic District

National Register of Historic Places

Fisher is a fully intact 1898 company town built by the Louisiana Long Leaf Lumber Company, and when the mill closed in 1966, the town just stayed the way it was. The sawmill commissary, the company office, the opera house, the Victorian cottages for mill workers — all still standing, all on their original foundations, all painted the original yellow. It's the best-preserved sawmill town in the South, and about 250 people still live in the houses. Fisher hosts the annual Sawmill Days festival every May.
