Catholic New Orleans — The Most Catholic City in America

Founded as a French Catholic colony, New Orleans never had the Protestant foundation of most American cities. The Catholic calendar shaped civic life — Mardi Gras exists because Lent does. The Ursuline nuns arrived in 1727 and built the first school, first orphanage, and first hospital. That Catholic DNA still runs through the city's festivals, architecture, and social rituals.
