Tabor Opera House

National Register of Historic Places
Good forLive-music fansHistory buffsArts & culture lovers

Mining magnate Horace Tabor built this opera house in Leadville in 1879 — 100 days of construction in one of the West's rowdiest silver boomtowns. Oscar Wilde, John Philip Sousa, and Buffalo Bill all took the stage. Legend has it the trap door at center stage was cut for Harry Houdini, though evidence of his presence has, fittingly, disappeared.
