Galveston Island Convention Center and Historic Hotel Galvez

The Galvez Hotel opened in 1911, named in honor of Bernardo de Gálvez — the same Spanish leader for whom the city itself was named. It stands as the only historic beachfront hotel on the Texas Gulf Coast, on a barrier island that had been nearly erased by the deadliest natural disaster in American history just a decade before. The hotel is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and carries the nickname the Queen of the Gulf.
