Ovid — Willard State Hospital Historic District

The buildings at Willard State Hospital Historic District have endured longer than whatever brought most visitors to the Finger Lakes. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this complex of Victorian institutional structures on the Seneca Lake shore in Ovid began as one of New York's largest psychiatric institutions, opening in 1869. It still operates — partially — as a drug treatment center. The institution outlasted its original purpose, which is either a condemnation or a testament, depending on how you read it.
