Hobart and William Smith Colleges

Two colleges share one campus above Seneca Lake: Hobart College, founded in 1822 from the ruins of a frontier academy, and William Smith College, established in 1908 when a wealthy local nurseryman decided his philanthropy would go toward women's education. They maintain separate deans, separate athletic traditions, and separate diplomas — but one faculty, one campus, and one strange, specific identity that alumni tend to carry for life.
