National Soaring Museum

Elmira calls itself the soaring capital of America, and it earned the title: the first thirteen National Soaring Contests were held at Harris Hill between 1930 and 1946. The National Soaring Museum sits on that same hill, housing one of the largest collections of historical and vintage gliders and sailplanes in the world and serving as the Soaring Society of America's official repository. The museum is open year-round. Adjacent to it, the Harris Hill Soaring Corporation offers sailplane rides over the Chemung Valley.
