The Battery (White Point Garden)

National Register of Historic Places
Good forHistory buffsArts & culture lovers

The southern tip of the Charleston Peninsula, where the Ashley and Cooper Rivers converge into the harbor, has been fortified in one form or another since the colonial era. What remains is a seawall and promenade — the High Battery along East Battery Street, the Low Battery along Murray Boulevard — fronted by antebellum mansions and anchored by White Point Garden, a six-acre park with Civil War-era cannons and a monument to the pirate Stede Bonnet.
