The John Sevier School didn't get torn down. Instead, Kingsport renovated it in 1991 and turned it into the Renaissance Center — a 350-seat theatre, a three-story skylighted atrium, an art gallery, a gymnasium, and meeting rooms, all managed by the city's Office of Cultural Arts. The art gallery runs rotating exhibits and stays open to the public most weekdays and Saturday mornings.
